Kucina Italian was co-founded by Alessandro Lo Giudice and Chef Gero Di Maria in June 2016.
Driven by his love for his Italian heritage, culture, and the way food brings people together, Alessandro envisioned Singapore’s first authentic Italian halal restaurant — a welcoming place where people from all walks of life could gather at one table and experience the warmth, tradition, and joy of true Italian cuisine.
To bring this vision to life, he partnered with Chef Gero Di Maria, whose culinary talent, experience, and personal journey as a Muslim revert gave the brand its heart and identity.
With over 30 years in the F&B industry and deep expertise in authentic Italian cuisine, Chef Gero has welcomed guests through his food, personality, and genuine hospitality. Together, Alessandro and Gero created Kucina — a restaurant built on inclusivity, authenticity, and the belief that Italian cuisine is for everyone.
Today, Chef Gero continues to helm Kucina Italian Restaurant and has become a much-loved personality both in the restaurant and online, where his charm and passion for cooking have made him a viral sensation on TikTok with over 15 million views and counting.

KUCINA aims to provide high quality Italian cuisines which can be enjoyed by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. In 2019, KUCINA received it’s first MUIS Halal certification. Authenticity, in Kucina’s content, is all about retaining the original method of preparing Italian food; no short-cuts or fusion.
The word Kucina is inspired by the actual word “Cucina” which means ‘kitchen’ in Italian. To suit the local enunciation of words, the letter K is used instead of C. Hence, the word Kucina is formed.
